Hardware specs guide

How do I find my hardware specifications?

MaxMyFrames works best when you enter exact component names. You do not need every detail to start, but the more precise your CPU, GPU, RAM, motherboard, PSU, and case data is, the more useful the upgrade path becomes.

Before you start

  • You can choose Not sure in the configurator if one component is unclear.
  • Only download tools from their official websites. Avoid “driver updater” bundles.
  • Do not open your PC case while it is powered on. If you are unsure, use software first.
  • Power supply labels often require looking inside the case. Unplug the PC and ask someone experienced if that is outside your comfort zone.

Built-in Windows methods

Start here. These methods are safe, quick, and enough for most first-pass recommendations.

Windows Task Manager

Fastest

Good for CPU, RAM size, and GPU names without installing anything.

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  2. Open the Performance tab.
  3. Click CPU, Memory, and GPU to copy the full model names.

DirectX Diagnostic Tool

Built in

Useful when Task Manager hides details such as GPU memory or driver info.

  1. Press Win + R, type dxdiag, then press Enter.
  2. Use the System tab for CPU and RAM.
  3. Use Display tabs for GPU model names and VRAM.

Windows System Information

Detailed

Best built-in place to confirm motherboard/baseboard and BIOS information.

  1. Press Win + R, type msinfo32, then press Enter.
  2. Check System Model, BaseBoard Manufacturer, and BaseBoard Product.
  3. Use Components → Display if you need another GPU cross-check.

Optional tools

When you need exact model names

These tools can give more detail than Windows shows. They are third-party tools, so check the publisher site and decline bundled offers if an installer presents any.
